There’s something about this photo of me that I like. It’s just goofy!
In exactly one week I begin my second semester of my graduate studies, along with a full-time course load of awesome classes, I’ve also landed a position as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the English department. I’ve already began planning some fun activities and assignments for the class I’ll be working in (Inquiry 101 is the class), and I’m so excited to be back in the classroom again. The more experience I’m gaining with college level students and the more networking I’m doing with other professors has further proved to me that this is where I belong. I love high school students, but as I pursue another degree, and later move on to working on my Ph.D, I am realizing that becoming a professor is what I want to do with my life. So, with the new school year getting closer at a steady pace here are some of the things I want to do this year:
Rekindle Zombie Hour. I’ve recently found out that the person who told me graduate students cannot do a radio show is full of it. Therefore, I will be making it my business to bring back my show of over 6 years.
Work on my newly inspired research paper. This is a big one, which I’m not sure if I’ll have time to do, but I’m going to try my damnedest to MAKE time. Last year I presented my paper focusing on using Young Adult Literature as a paired assignment with Shakespeare. This year I’m looking to explore the Zombie, and the history of the Zombie in literature. I’m super excited to dig up some old folklore and learn more about it. Then I’m presenting it.
Show college freshman how to get involved in campus life. The class I’m teaching is part English/Writing/Reading/Communicating and part getting involved in campus life. Since in my last 6 years of higher education the only things I’ve done are have a radio show, this will be a re-learning experience for me, too.
Usually, I have a ton of goals I want to accomplish, but this year I’m going to stick to three big ones instead of a million small ones. Three is also half of six, and six is my favorite number, so it makes sense. To me.

Since I’ve obviously been neglecting my blog to take care of three year olds, the past few week weeks wouldn’t be complete without bullet points. You know how much I love bullet points. Here’s what’s been going on, and some great life lessons that I’ve learned:
Do not try and mess with your layouts too much, as you will break your website and have to start from scratch as I did. On the bright side, check out my nifty footer and much cleaner sidebar!
Using Sheer Blonde highlighting spray because you are cheap and refuse to pay good money for good highlights results in the roots of your hair turning orange. Fixing the mistake in a cheap way results in them turning fire engine red. Going to the salon and paying $300 to strip your hair and fix your nasty vomit colored skunky rainbow mistake is a blessing, a curse, and a lesson learned.
If you aren’t on facebook you won’t know family happenings because people do not use the phone anymore. I’m 100% considering deleting my facebook account and staying on google+ with the 12 people I actually talk to, and of course, my awesome blog friends.
Eating a glove of raw garlic does in fact ward off a cold. My throat feels a little better, but you WILL offend everyone around you for said evening. Also, apparently everything I eat comes out of my hair. I think my hair is a separate entity
Making lots of poopoo on the toilet should be rewarded in lots of stickers. One big poopoo should be rewarded with one big sticker. Learned from a very cute 3 year old in my class.
Nine times out of ten your mother and your boyfriend know what looks best on you, so listen to them.
And last but not least, you should always use your manners because if you don’t then people will not want to play with you. Another good lesson I learned from one of my kids.
Here’s to hoping that in my last week at KinderCare that I won’t cry on my last day and that I have met my sickness quota for the next year and a half. These kids are adorable and I love them, but I have a passionate desire to hear without my ear popping and to swallow without my throat hurting.
