Merry Christmas! (and some tips too!)
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy all of the festivities.
Tonight we’re heading to Keith’s for Christmas Eve and we have all of this amazing Polish food. We have Sauerkraut Soup, three types of Pieroggis, and two types of Babikas (my favorite being the sugar and walnut ones), and Kolach Bread which has raisins, cinnamon, and walnuts. Delicious! I’m super excited. And tomorrow we’re having Christmas day at my Aunt’s and I’m giving Keith his presents tomorrow.
I absolutely love Christmas traditions. There’s something about the Christmas season that just makes me so happy.
What are some of your traditions? What are your plans for Christmas Eve/Day?
And since you know I can just leave you without giving some healthy tips, for those of us who are worried about holiday weight gain, there’s plenty of things you can do to make the holidays more manageable.
- Drink a full glass of water and have a light snack before going to parties! You’ll be less likely to overindulge.
- That being said, don’t starve yourself all day, so you “can eat more later.” It doesn’t work that way, and you’ll end up eating more than you have planned.
- Wine is a good option for alcohol instead of having a cocktail or a beer. Even better? Make it a spritzer. Less wine, and club soda is a no calorie mixer!
- If you’re going to a party where you’re bringing something, make a veggie or fruit dish. You’ll be surprised at how many other people will be happy that you brought something healthy. Try fat free yogurt for a fruit dip, or hummus/fat free ranch for veggies.
We all love eating around the holiday season, and food plays a big role, especially in my family with us being Italian and Greek, but there’s plenty of ways you can still enjoy all of these treats without going overboard.
I hope you all have a great Christmas, and enjoy yourselves! Be safe, have fun, and enjoy all of the presents. =]

Merry Christmas, Christine. I hope that you have a good few days
LaurenMy Christmas traditions involve going to my Aunt and Uncles house in the early afternoon on Christmas Day. About 25 of us gather, we eat an early dinner, then open gifts, and finish the evening off by singing Christmas carols while one of us plays the piano. It’s always exactly the same every year, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way.
Merry Christmas!
ShaunaMerry Christmas to you also! That food is something I have not had. I don’t think I would like to try it either. I’m such a picky eater. I’m sure it will be delicious though. I just tried lobster last night for the first time haha. Maybe that’s not funny to you, but I think people in Nova Scotia (where I live) would be shocked. We are all supposed to eat and love seafood because we live on the ocean. I hate it.
I don’t think we really have any traditions for Christmas anymore since my grandparents died and my brother moved out. Tonight I don’t plan on doing anything special. Then on Christmas morning we will open our gifts. Then after that we will play with them haha. The only real rule is that we can’t open anything until everyone is downstairs by the tree. I am allowed to open anything that is in my stocking though which is good. We used to open one gift on Christmas Eve when my brother and I were younger, but now that I’m older I don’t get that many gifts so I save them all for Christmas day. It used to take hours to open all of my gifts. Now I’d be lucky if it took me one hour. I feel selfish for wanting gifts, but it makes me sad that I only have like maybe 10 gifts to open.
DeannaHappy Christmas! enjoy!
ChesterHaha. LOL. It’s pretty hard not to pig out during Christmas. XD
FiaI should have read this before I stuffed myself like crazy! You’re Italian and Greek? You guys probably have quite a feast on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
We always go to my aunt’s house for dinner on Christmas Eve then we go to church at 10. When we get home, we have some champagne/sparkling cider and my uncle pretends to be Santa and we distribute gifts at midnight. Because there are so many of us, we end up opening them half an hour later. We take family pictures every year and eat more food afterwards! Unfortunately, we didn’t do most of those things this year because we were all snowed in =/ It was kind of a bummer but it was still fun.
FelisaGotta remember that drinking one full glass of water part. Hahaha now that’s why I keep on binging :p
Anyway Merry Christmas to you! I usually go with my family to relatives (dad’s side) and spend Christmas Eve there.
Geli hope you had a happy and good christmas! :]
Lyannthanks for the tips. i’ll remember them for new year.
Merry christmas and happy new year! What all do you have planned? I’m counting down til 09!
SamanthaI love Christmas and the days that follow it as well. It always makes me so happy. ^_^ That polish tradition and food sounds so tasty… I’ve never had any of it. Haha, probably because I’m not polish, but still. I hope you had a great Christmas with family and all that.
TiffanyI hope you had a great holiday
I know I did. I spent lots of time with family, which is great because I rarely get a chance to see them all. I hope you have a great new year
