I have left the Razr Club

No, the Razr club has nothing to do with giving up shaving (though sometimes the thought crosses my mind). It’s a joke my best friend and I share since we seem to be the only people still rockin’ the MotoRazr.

About five years ago, I had the coolest phone on the block. When I was a freshman in college, I had the Moto Razr, the very first version of it to come out. It was thin, it was sleek chrome, and no one else I knew had one. Some people even asked me what kind of phone I had. I was on top of my technological game. Today, my Razr still works great. I have home made ringtones, silly videos, and 5 years worth of pictures on it, and it STILL works. But, needless to say, it was time for an upgrade. I had a craving for a QWERTY keyboard and I had been eligible for upgrade for about 4 years now. When I went on to ATT I saw the cutest little hockey puck phone that slides, has a full keyboard, and is small and compact like my beloved Razr. I read the reviews and they were great, and many of them were from Razr users! This new phone, the Motorola Karma, was perfect for me. It was about 50.00 down from 249.99. I slept on the idea and waited for the next day to come.

When I logged on the next day my phone was FREE!!! Yes FREE!!! You all know how I love free, so I ordered it as soon as possible, and received my new phone on Saturday. I had to buy a new USB cable and do some torrenting work to get my MotoPhone Tools updated (my phone is so new that only the newest version works! Who knew?), but everything is running smooth now. I love the fact that it has shortcuts to social networking sites, I can actually use the internet (3g FTW!), and I still have my ability to customize and create my own ringtones on my computer. I went through some hard work getting my phone perfectly customized and ready for my every day use, but yesterday I finally completed everything. This phone is absolutely amazing. Though I still find myself using the T9 option sometimes (old habits die hard), I’m getting used to having a mini computer keyboard in my pocket.

If you’re near me and Keith calls me, you’ll hear a snippet of The Dropkick Murphys “Kiss Me I’m Shitfaced”, if it’s my parentals you’ll hear CCR’s “Down on The Corner”, and for everyone else it’s Rolling Stones “Brown Sugar.” I refuse to pay money for ring tones, and I like having ones that other people don’t have. Leaving the Razr club was bittersweet for me. That Razr has been through everything from new friends, crazy nights, jobs, and the occasional drop and it has survived. I kept my Razr just in case I ever need it. It’s currently sitting on my bookcase waiting for me to transfer photos over to my computer.

Sometimes I also have this tendency of being a bit too attached to my stuff as well. You’ve had your previous phone for a good five years, wow. How did you do that!? I’ve never had a gadget who lasted with me that long. Thats really cool. Your new mobile’s looking sleek and i’m sure the features are awesome too! I’m sure you’ll get used to it in no time. Enjoy :)

I never had luck with Motorola’s… neither has anyone I know. I had the Crazr and it didn’t hold charge from day 1, and after 1 phone call (even after charging overnight), it’d die. I was glad to get away from it.

I want a new phone too! I can’t imagine having a cell phone for that long. I get tired of mine after a year. I have an LG Dare now but I’m totally craving a Blackberry. :D

How’s the qwerty keyboard on that? I have the Samsung Rant, and I never use my qwerty keyboard because the buttons are too hard to press (especially with my longer fingernails) so I just use the number pad and text the old fashioned way.

That new phone looks very cool, and wow, how did you get it for free?! Was it part of a post-paid plan package or something?

I definitely agree about the ringtone thing, I never buy them either because I can never get the songs I want anyway. I use an iPhone, so I use a trick in iTunes to make my own, and before that I made them on my computer too and transferred them to my old phone via USB. Lol at the song you used as Keith’s ringtone though…I’ll have to look that up, it sounds good! I’ve only heard one other song by the Dropkick Murphys (their version of Finnegan’s wake), but they made a good impression. :)

Congrats on your new phone! I have been itching to get a new phone myself. I have had mine probably about as long as you have. I think I got it in 2004. But I think it might be a little while longer before I actually talk myself into leaving my old phone for a newer one.

Wow I wish I was able to keep a phone for that long, all my old phones either broke or got stolen because I am so clumsy and forgetful. I love to customize my own ringtones, but sadly I don’t know how to make them on a mac, because my blackberry user tools only works on windows, I can only freely customize my ringtones ( or try to anyway ) online. Your new phone seems great, enjoy it!!!

Oh and yes, My intro to music class is history of music, and I do enjoy it but sometimes I confuse terms like dynamics, harmony, and melody, which I need to know when writing an essay on a midterm or something =/
