I am currently blogging to you from my brand new laptop (A Dell Studio 15 w/built in cam & black and white polka dot design!!!) that I purchased for myself with graduation cash. With all of the fanfare over, and the working world crashing down around me, I’ve been a little down on myself as of late despite my happy face in that photo up there. I think it has a lot to do with the stresses of job searching, working my butt off at Panera, and Keith becoming a manager at Michael’s. He’s been working a lot and sometimes we’re not able to see each other as often. I also am used to being an over achiever, and not being in school for a semester (I’m planning to go back to grad school in December) is hard for me since I’m always busy with some form of academics or another. I also want a teaching job…badly! So though I’ve been feeling a little droopy, there are some things I do to give myself a pick-me-up.
- Paint my nails a fun color: for some reason bright fun shades on my fingers and toes make me happy. I’m currently rocking a shocking pink on my digits and a purple with black and white polka dot design on my toes.
- Think about and sometimes write down my “Highs” of a day. This started on the beach in Rhode Island when my cousin’s were discussing their high’s and low’s of each day. Keith and I started doing that as well, but sometimes you just need to think about the high’s alone.
- Retail therapy: While I try to be savvy with my money, there are just some times when you need to spend a little something on yourself. I try to make it something small like a new accessory like fun sunglasses or a cute change purse, or a new lip gloss. When you work hard, and start to get down on yourself when things don’t work out, you have to remind yourself that you deserve a reward too!
- Talk it out: What are friends for? If something is getting me down I like to talk about it with a friend or two (or three!) A lot of my friends are going through some of the same emotions since they too just graduated and are trying to find jobs. We can offer each other tips or simply complain and vent together.
- Those fattening drinks from S-Bucks: Yes, I go to the gym. Yes, I watch what I eat, but sometimes a Mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks is just what I need. (And now I can get it made with skim!)
- “The Why I’m Awesome List” is pretty self explanatory, but sometimes writing it down and posting it somewhere visible to you (and perhaps the others in your house?) helps.
It stinks to feel mopey, especially when you’re usually a positive person, which I try to be as much as possible. What are some times when you just feel down? What do you do to remedy how you’re feeling? If all else fails, just be glad that you’re not like Holden Caulfield who says, “When I really worry about something, I don’t just fool around. I even have to go to the bathroom when I worry about something. Only, I don’t go. I’m too worried to go. I don’t want to interrupt my worrying to go.”

Your hair is so curly! I love it.
Are you able to sub while you are looking for a full time job? Most of the time, people here have to sub for about three years before they are able to get a full time job.
When I am feeling mopey I think I eat more junk food. I like to buy chocolate bars. It helps for a bit but makes you fat too lol.

Your hair is insane. I love it
Like you, I like keeping myself busy so I always have a “project” that I’m working on that I can spend my time and energy on when I want to be on “work mode.”
I definitely fill my schedule up with things I love when I’m feeling mopey. Look for “things to do for free” where you live and you’ll always be surprised. Just don’t ever let yourself feel stagnant and you’ll be fine. If you can’t find a teaching job — volunteer! There are always things to do.

*hugs* I’m sorry, Christine. You’re naturally a very happy person (from what I see), so it is hard to see you’re not too happy. I understand where you are coming from. It really sucks that when you graduate, the economy is shit. Consider this a “break” before your life really starts
I really hope you find a teaching job soon. I know you’d be an excellent teacher.
As for Keith, that is the WORST. When Todd had a 2nd job, I hated it, because I didn’t see him as much. Like Keith to you, Todd is my best friend. We do everything together. So it is really hard when they aren’t around as much. I hope he can eventually work out some middle ground with the hours.
Well congrats on the new computer and you look hella cute as always. I love it when you let your hair be naturally curly like that
You are adorable my dear!

Your laptop sounds cute! I’d like a new laptop, but I never use the old one I’ve got currently, I’m more of a desktop kind of person.
The highs&lows list sounds great, I think I’ll try that next time I feel really shit. <3

Wow, congrats on the new laptop. Hopefully you won’t have as many issues as people have had in the past with Dell.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my apple ipad and tested to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super fast for me on Internet explorer. Superb Blog!

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
