2009 Reflections

First and foremost, I hope that all of you fabulous pals of mine had a safe, happy, and fun New Year’s Eve and Day. Keith and I celebrated at his house with some friends and his family like we usually do. We drank some Busch Light (light, so it’s healthy–right?), some green, and some xbox. We continued the celebration into today when we came back to my house to have a nice dinner and dessert with my parents. I thought it would be fun to reflect back on good ole 2009, and what I’m looking forward to for 2010.

  • I finally began shoveling. Before this year I never picked up a shovel to clean up the driveway after a snowstorm. When my Dad hurt his knee in February I stepped up to the plate.
  • I made some amazing new friends. People who were in my classes, but I never really spoke to have become some great friends to me. I’m so glad that this year I actually talked to more people.
  • Keith and I attended three weddings, one of which we were both in, and started to realize that taking our sweet time on the engagement, wedding stress, and house buying is A-Ok!
  • Attended the sex museum and braved NYC without the guidance of my Dad who happens to know how to get EVERYWHERE! It was so fun to experience.
  • Said goodbye Keith’s dog, Royal. Keith’s golden retriever was one of my favorite dogs ever. In April he passed away due to cancer.
  • Learned how much work a puppy is–and how much of a cat person I am–when we babysat Brody, Keith’s new golden/chow pup for the first three days of him being home.
  • Realized that crying doesn’t mean you’re weak.
  • Learned from Kenny that “Showing No Weakness” is what you need to do, even if you want to crawl into a ball…and cry.
  • Kept off my 50 pounds that I lost–and have continued to reshape my lifestyle with health and fitness.
  • Realized that good people get screwed when the economy fails. Keith and I learned how to be frugal and still have fun when he was laid off. (He now has a new job!!!)
  • “Reinvented” (for lack of a better word) my relationship with God. It’s one of the most amazing things I have experienced.
  • Gave up shaving for 2 weeks ala Amanda Palmer, just to see what it was like. Liberating? YES! Doable for me? NOPE!

And my goals for 2010 thus far:
-Get a teaching job when I graduate in May.
-Survive student teaching–and hopefully love it!
-Work on my birthday notebook, so I can have everyone’s birthdays in order.
-Write in my journal more often. No more 3 month lapses.
    -Continue filling my recipe box.
    -Write more letters.
    -Maintain my weight loss.
-Spend time with family and friends.
-Enjoy life, and try not to stress out as much as I do.

What are some of your highlights of the year? What do you hope to accomplish? Here’s to a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2010!

A bit of shameless self promotion

If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you might remember back in the dark ages of curls.nu that my boyfriend, Keith and I had a radio show at my school’s station. After some consideration, we decided to bring back the show, but this time we have a niche. So, without further ado I present to you: ZOMBIE HOUR.

Every Friday you guys can listen to Keith and I discuss all things horror, from movies to books. We review two movies each show and we give you tips on how to survive a battle with the undead. As you know, I love horror movies and zombies, so this is great. It’s truly good radio if you ask me. I’m not biased or anything.

    That’s us on the air!

We broadcast on the radio itself, but for those of you who aren’t in the area you can listen online, and on the website there is a chatroom so we can talk to you guys. You can call us and everything. We also made a Facebook page “Zombie Hour” so you can become a fan of us too. Facebook seems to be the place to whore yourself out as of late.

So, EVERY FRIDAY from 8pm-9pm Eastern Time, log on to WSIN Radio, and give us a listen. This week we’re doing a Halloween/Friday The 13th face-off. You get good tunes, good movie talk, and most importantly you can hear my sexy voice. Ha!

    New Additions & Wristlets

[Since Keith provided some of the "material" (ha) for this post, first and foremost, please check out his online portfolio flatblackart.com. He's an amazing artist and is bringing his art to the internet. Follow him up on Twitter as well! It'd make his day!]

I truly feel like a real fashion lover as I have bought my first piece of Coach all by myself (with the help of my Macy’s charge, haha). This was not an impulse buy either. I saw this Coach wallet a few months ago and managed to pick it up on sale (almost 50% the original price), and decided this was the one for me for a few reasons. It has the classic black on white logo design which will never go out of style. It’s a classic piece that can be paired with almost any purse. And the inside has room for a check book (which also came with the wallet, it has the same pattern!), and plenty of room for cards and cash. I’m absolutely in love with it, and here she is:

And finally, the second two things I had to show you guys were two gifts I received. Keith and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary together on the 6th of June and he surprised me with a wristlet from the Juicy loves Sephora collection. I’ve never owned a wristlet but always wanted one for bars/concerts and one to take to weddings since they’re so much easier than carting a purse around. It’s absolutely beautiful and I love it!

And my Mom and Dad so generously bought me a Coach black on black wristlet for my good grades. Yes, I get presents for good grades! Got a problem? Tell someone who cares, I’m a spoiled and appreciative only child. Ha! I’ll be taking this to the two weddings Keith and I are attending later in the summer.

I tried out my Juicy Wristlet for a party last night and it worked beautifully. It was so much easier than toting one of my big bags around and it can be safer too especially at parties and other big gatherings. I carried my license, one credit card, some cash, my cellie, gum and smokes.

    NYC’s Sex Museum

I’m always heading up to NYC since it’s a short hour and a half train ride away. I try to go a few times a year, and it’s usually a family affair. This time, Keith and I went solo to NYC’S Sex Museum. This was actually an extra credit project for my Human Sexuality class, and the first one I knew I wanted to do. The museum is right on 5th avenue, but in the opposite direction from the main shopping area. We arrived in NYC at around and 11 and walked right to the museum, and it was only a 25-30 minute walk.

The first floor was the main exhibit, “The Sex Lives of Animals.” The sculptures were pretty fascinating, but it was super text heavy. I’m a reader, but not when all the text is on the wall. Also did you know that there is homosexual and group sex in certain animal species? If not, you do now. I thought it was pretty interesting to point that out, but it was kind of overwhelming to see at first. Since Keith is the artist, he really enjoyed looking at the sculptures. They literally looked like they were floating. It was really great work.

The second floor was titled “Sex & The Moving Image” and it was great. There were tons of televisions, projections and even little booths to watch movies in, sort of like that strip club/lap dance feel. My favorite movie showing was the one of all the nude scenes from mainstream movies. There’s a ton of them! Seth Rogen’s character from “Knocked Up” would be proud!

The final exhibit was titled “The Sex Lives of Robots” but that was only a very small part of it. There was everything in this room from bondage to old school woman’s health tools. Did you also know that Vibrators were sold as “Beauty Aids” and looked like an old fashioned egg beater? Amazing! I especially liked looking at the books that taught children about sex. There was actually a book that Keith’s parents read to him as a child.

The only thing that truly bothered me was this latex suit, it looks sort of like the Real Dolls (I’m sure we all know what those are), but it’s a baggy suit that someone wears. It just looked creepy, and freaked me out, especially because it must get so damn hot in there, and I cannot stand being confined in something. So, it’s not for me, but do trust, I’m not dissing you latex lovers out there!

When they change the exhibits, I would definitely go again, it was certainly an experience. After the museum we stopped at Saks, Sephora, and grabbed lunch at Junior’s. Go there and have the onion rings, they’re amazing.

    Vacation Photos

Here are all of the vacation photos from our trip to RI. We had an amazing time. I got a tan, drank wine coolers on the beach, and just spent time with the people I love the most. These will also be added to my flickr and cross posted on lj, just FYI. =]

The first day was filled with sun and beautiful weather.
