Christmas Mall Deals & Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Has anyone started Christmas/Holiday shopping yet? I’ve been going back and forth on things to get for people, and found some great things at the mall, as well as some great deals too. I only have 5 out of the 15 people I have to buy for, but I’m making some progress. I usually do a lot of gift cards, but this year I’m trying not to do as many gift cards, and I’m going to wrap more gifts this year instead of throwing everything into gift bags, ha. Christine’s on a roll!

Shopping at the mall is great for tons of reasons, seeing all the bustle, listening to the Christmas music, peppermint mocha lattes, and of course Christmas gift deals! Here are some of the deals I spotted during my shopping! After all, I love knowing that I got someone an amazing gift without having to sell my soul to Satan. Isn’t that refreshing?

Bath & Body Works: Free mani/pedi kit with any gift card purchase, Stocking Stuffers for less than 15.00, 2 for 10.00 Softest Socks (great for feet pampering nights!), Buy 2 Get 1 Free Holiday Gift Sets

Victoria’s Secret: Sweaters 50% off, 40% off PINK Styles, Secret Garden Collection gift set for only 12.50 & mist set for 15.00, DISCOUNT CODE: Buy pajamas and enter SLIPPER08 when placing your order online or by phone. Free slippers make a fun gift for someone else, or yourself.

And of course, my personal favorite: Stocking Stuffers. I always hear my friends asking what to do for stocking stuffers, and there’s plenty of cheap and fun ideas for stocking gifts. I love finding lip glosses and mini nail polishes in my stocking. For guys how about playing cards, or a fancy bottle opener? And if all else fails, check out amazing stocking stuffer ideas.

Benefits & Uses of Baby Oil

On my last post I mentioned some ways to help relieve from cold symptoms, and of course one of the seasons most annoying problems; dry skin & chapped lips. Cynthia asked me what I thought about using Baby Oil for dry hands, and I have to agree, it’s a good idea. This post is all about the benefits of Baby Oil, which I absolutely LOVE! So thanks Cynthia for the inspiration.

Of course baby oil is most known for it’s benefits on baby’s skin, you can use it for your makeup and beauty needs as well. Use it as an eye makeup remover; the gentle formula removes eye makeup gently without burn in case it does get into your eyes. Fabulous! And plus, it softens the skin around your eyes, which is very delicate.

If you’re an at home waxer like I am, I usually get rid of the Benzocaine or Azulene in my wax pack, and use Baby Oil to remove excess wax on my skin (or sometimes the sink, haha). If you’re a new waxer, you may be prone to mild irritation or redness after waxing. By applying some Baby Oil with a soft cotton ball, you’ll soothe skin too.

For dry skin I recommend using baby oil before you dry off when getting out of the shower. If you’re going to do this make sure to stand outside the tub to avoid slipping as the oil will make the tub very slippery. Apply oil to dry skin while you’re still wet and as you dry, the moisture from your skin will suck up the oil and the towel will help to rub it in. It also works lovely for windburn, during the windy winter months.

October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Happy October everybody! October is breast cancer awareness month, and there is so much that we can do to help find a cure, donate to research, and support survivors. Breast cancer is one of the most easily treatable cancers if detected early. One of the biggest fallacies is that breast cancer is something only women have to be concerned with. Men can also be at risk for breast cancer, as they also have breast tissue! We can all do something to help the cause for curing and treating breast cancer. There are many beauty and fashion companies that make products in which all proceeds go directly to charities. Here are some links, and amazing products that work in two ways; keeping you gorgeous, and helping those in need.

Make sure to check out’s Breast Cancer Awareness Shopping Guide. Clinique is just one of the companies contributing to such an amazing cause. This special edition of their Dramatically Different Moisturizer (which I’ve never met someone who didn’t love it), donates to Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Also featured is Bobbi Brown’s Pink Ribbon collection which boasts beautiful lip glosses and colors. The two I’ve mentioned are only a few of the amazing products on TB’s shopping guide. Make sure to check out the products, and take note of the amazing cause you’ll be helping out.

Beauty companies worldwide are focusing on this important cause, but clothing companies also donate to charities and foundations as well. Consider shopping on The Susan G. Komen For The Cure Promise Shop. The shop features beautiful ‘Warrior’ Scarves, in which each symbol means something different. Also on the website are Komen Holiday cards, and watches. Why not have Holiday cards which also help a good cause?

And, finally, you can even help the cause to cure breast cancer when you go out to eat. Panera features a Pink Ribbon Bagel for the month of October. As I used to work there I can tell you it’s pretty delicious. It has dried cherries and a vanilla flavor, and tastes great alone or with your morning cup of coffee.

If you want to learn more, I’ve included some amazing links. Check them out and be informed!

Do’s & Don’ts: Teacher Fashion!

As a future teacher, I can’t help but notice that teachers are labeled as fashion DON’TS. This not only annoys me (I love fashion and beauty), but kind of hurts. Why are teachers labeled as some freaky nerd woman from the 50s, or a teacher from the 1800s who looks hard, tough, and let’s face it: beige. TEACHERS! (and future teachers): stand up for fashion! Be stylish, be professional, and most of all be yourself in the classroom.

Don’t think that you can’t be casual and professional. On a jeans day try wearing cute boots, or a pair of flats and a dressy top. You don’t want to look like one of the students (I got asked where I thought I was going when trying to leave the school!).

Do have a pair of black pants or khaki/brown pants, if your school has a strict dress code for teachers. Private schools tend to have higher expectations than a public school. These neutrals are a staple in any wardrobe and can pull together any outfit and make it look more professional.

Do use accessories! Funky necklaces or bracelets can add some spunk to any outfit. If you’re in a private school they can help you express your personality without violating a dress code.

sexy teacher fantasy? let the kids picture this on their own time!

Don’t try to be the hot teacher. I’ve seen this happen and CRASH AND BURN. I’ve seen it when I was a high school student, and I’ve seen it during my field work at the high school.

Do invest in a cardigan. For two reasons: they’re totally in this fall, and they’re light enough to keep you warm in a cold school, and you won’t be hot in a warm school. They’re perfect for in between seasons, and they look adorable!

Do carry a big bag! Blacks and browns compliment every outfit and hold all of your stuff. You’re going to need it toting lesson books, grade books, pens, pencils, and all of those extra handouts for your students who lose them.

As I begin to embark on yet another journey I refuse to only allow myself to wear black. I must have looked like I was going to a funeral every time I walked into the school. I will not settle for wearing bland clothes, and I will not accept that teachers are looked at as fashion victims! I’m rocking some new styles for my teaching work this semester and I plan to look professional (and stylish) while doing it!

Scoring Freebies At The Mall

I can still remember Marsadie’s article on how to score freebies and samples from department store makeup counters. The article was great, and it was interesting to read. I never knew, before reading her article, that it was possible to score freebies and samples, which only benefits fellow beauty junkies like myself.

While back to school shopping I decided to stop in Sephora to redeem by birthday gift for being a Beauty Insider. Sephora’s beauty insider program is a rewards system in which you earn points for your purchases. I knew that you get a free birthday gift, but I didn’t know I would walk out of the store with two freebies!

The birthday gift was a bubble bath/shower gel: Vanilla Cupcake. It has hints of toasted almond, honey, and buttermilk as well. There’s a bit of sparkle in the gel which left my skin feeling great and smelling great. I love products with Almond Oil (I rave about my Creme Ribbons by Olay!), and vanilla is such a light and delicious scent without being overpowering. The bottle even says, “Happy Birthday Beautiful!”

I also received a sample sized Bare Minerals SPF 15 Foundation with a cute little application brush. I haven’t tried the product yet, but the sample size fits nicely in my cosmetic bag (also a freebie), and would be great to keep on me for face touch ups at school. Has anyone used Bare Minerals before? I’d love to hear some opinions. I haven’t heard anything negative from fellow bloggers, but I’d love to learn some more, especially with the mineral makeup trend at full height.

Finally, I scored a freebie at Victoria’s Secret as well. With any PINK purchase you receive a free cosmetic bag in either pink, green, or blue. If you’re a Glamour reader check your pages, as the coupon comes in September’s issue! I chose pink and can’t wait to fill it for school in two weeks.
