Pacifica Beauty Power of Love Eyeshadow Palette Review & Giveaway

Whoa ladies and gentlemen! It’s almost officially summer. Tomorrow marks the first day of summer which makes me think…hmm…time to celebrate! Pacifica Beauty and their Power of Love campaign, part of the Made to Matter Collection for Target is a great way to kick off the summer festivities. My Pacifica Beauty Power of Love Review & Giveaway is one of my favorite giveaways thus far. I’m all about spreading the beauty buzz, but this collection is truly awesome (yes, I know I always say that). Summertime, for me,  means minimal makeup. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy looking put together for the beach, a morning walk, or day trips which is why I’m obsessed with the Pacifica Power of Love Eyeshadow Palette. One lucky reader will score ALL of the following Pacifica Beauty swag!

Let’s talk about the Pacifica Beauty Power of Love Eyeshadow Palette first! I am in love with the colors. They all remind me of summer and are coconut infused with a mineral base for easy application. The Pacifica Beauty Power of Love Eyeshadow Palette includes 10 shades: Mysterious, Bare, Falling Star, Spirited, Devoted, Shine On, Treasure, Crush, and Soul, and Luna and is made with recyclable paper and housed in a beautiful box. Even the box is printed with soy ink and is pretty adorable! You all know how I love my packaging!

All of the colors can be easily mixed and matched to create a cool custom look. I personally love mixing the light blue with the shimmer brown for a beachy feel. Likewise, the Pacifica Mascara (which you can read about here) and liner go on smoothly and complement each shade well. These shadows go on SUPER SMOOTHLY! I loved applying these colors as they feel soft and kind on your lids. Some mineral shadows have made my eyes watery or irritated, but these are very gentle. I also like that this palette comes complete with some nice neutrals as well as some fun colors. I’m usually very stuck in my shades of brown and grey for my eyes, but this inspired me to get a little funky for summer.  So…what’s next? Enter to win your own beachy eyes kit from Pacifica complete with the Pacifica Beauty Power of Love Eyeshadow Palette, Pacifica Natural Minerals Mascara in Supernova (dark black), and two liners in black and brown! Try all of the colors; and may the odds be ever in your favor! 🙂   a Rafflecopter giveaway

My Spring 2015 Essentials & Updates

Picture this: windows open, warm breeze and sunshine filtering in through my blinds, and a lemon blossom candle  burning gently. Yep, that was my house this weekend. Spring has sprung and I am beyond ready, yet grossly under-prepared. I’m still walking out some mornings in boots and scarves, but I’m not letting that get me down. I have a list of essentials and updates for Springtime, regardless of where you live. Start getting spring-i-fied with me, won’t you?

Spring Wishlist

As someone who favors a darker wardrobe, I try and usually spring it up with at least one colorful piece. Behold! My wishlist for this season, some of which I have already started purchasing. I’ve already gotten a cool boho cardigan, boyfriend crop, and flowy black tee (ok…about five of them), but I’m also on the search for a BRIGHT flat like these rainbow guys above. I don’t even care how “gaudy” they might be. I’m obsessed and I’ll wear them with my black tees and jeans!

I’m also on the lookout for a basic dress in a fun color, as seen above. I have some baby showers and other events to go to this summer (weddings, communions, and more!) so I’d love to own something that I can wear to all of those easily. I would love to be daring (for one), and buy a fun color like this. As for the bag, I’m already obsessed with coral and own a big coral bag…but my Disneymoon made me appreciate the crossbody bag. Read: I really liked not being weighed down by my mammoth bags. It was LIBERATING! Not for every day, but it’d be great to own a fun piece like this for mentioned weddings, communions, baby showers, field trips, etc…and to have it not be black!

I think this list is pretty doable, don’t you? Here’s to brightening up my closet and to not having to wear a jacket outside anymore!

Feel the Love: VDay Must-Haves

This year Keith and I are celebrating our first married (but 12th in all) Valentine’s Day together. We’re not going all out with gifts and flashy items. This year we’re keeping it low-key by doing dinner at one of our favorite local Italian restaurants and by going to see “50 Shades of Grey.” Yes, I know…I’m an English teacher, but we all need some mindless reading now and then, right? So, if you’re in the same crowd as I am and you’re ditching gifts to spend time with the one you love, why not rock a killer ensemble. Here, I’m going to show you my favorite VDay Fashion must-haves (and you can shop my closet if you like them).

If we’re going out, I’m all about the sweater dress with leggings and boots, OR a cute sweater with dark skinnies and boots. Note, these black boots work with either outfit. Double duty? Love it! I also love adding a little splash of red since it’s Valentine’s Day. Either of these outfits move nicely from night to day, and add an elegant flair. Pair them with a cute purse or wristlet (Rebecca Minkoff has an adorable lust-worthy heart-shaped one), and your outfit is done! Of course, being the nail junkie I am, I’m obsessed with ORLY’s nail lacquer in “After Party.” I love this shade for its cruelty free status, but the color matches either outfit and adds some vampy character to your wardrobe.

Once we’re home, I’m looking forward to snuggling into some cozy slippers and baggy PJ’s. Preferably something from Keith’s closet (Carhartt hoodies anyone), and relaxing. To be honest, I’m looking forward to the good old-fashioned dinner and a movie. We’re usually so busy that having a true date night is something that passes through our mind, but never really happens. Who cares if a holiday gets us out and gives me a chance to doll up?

Happy heart day to all! What are you doing this Valentine’s Day? Do you love it? Hate it? Already shopped and planned for it? Let me know!

That New Year’s Blog Post: 2015 Style

I think the idea of 2015 hit me when my students said to me…”so 15 years ago you were in 8th grade like us? DANG, MISS! Did you have Internet?” Seriously? I explained that we had a modem that used the phone to connect and that you couldn’t be on the phone at the same time. They stared at me with sympathy and concern. If I think back to 15 years ago, I try and remember how I even viewed a new year. Probably the same as I do now, a chance to start fresh and get recharged and a chance to try new things! So, here’s what I’ll be doing this 2015. Maybe you’ll add some of my tools to your new year arsenal?

What’s in your toolkit?

Most of these are pretty self-explanatory. The weird white stuff? Yep. It’s Tofu…and I’m going to create a recipe that I like once and for all. I’m also going to use my Thug Kitchen cookbook to help me. I’ve tried some recipes, but I’m just not in love with Tofu. I’m convinced that 2015 is going to be the year I cook a Tofu dish that doesn’t make me want to cry. Another note about my new favorite cookbook? I purchased it this year to add to my cookbook collection and this one is hysterical. I love profanity and plant-based cooking, so if you’re into that…you’ll need this book in 2015. Here’s a screenshot from one of their pages to give you a taste (no pun intended).

LULZ and NOMZ. This screenshot is tame.

Next up? I’m re-reading Gabrielle Bernstein’s “ING“. I want to compare my 2014 ING to my 2015 ING. This is kind of a self-reflective/meditation based thing I’ve been curious about. So, we’ll see how that goes. I’ll also be coupling my Yoga practice in with my journaling and re-readings. I’m hoping to see more positive change and growth since 2014. I also hope to get on my mat and to my classes more often. I’m going to try and make some time for my mind this year.

You might be wondering who Savvy Boheme is and why they’re in my 2015 toolkit. Because…if you’re NOT rubbing their Tall Americano vegan body oil all over your sexy self after a shower or bath you’re not living. All of their oils are great, but I’m a coffee girl at heart. I’ve reviewed this oil a while back, but their products need another mention. I’ve been obsessed with body and facial oils so I’m making that a real regimen come 2015. My skin looks and feels amazing! PSA: Oily skinned girls need body and facial oil. Don’t let anyone tell you differently!

Still throwing deuces, still wearing scarves 24/7, still battling big hair. Happy 2015, ya'll!
Still throwing deuces, still wearing scarves 24/7, still battling big hair. Happy 2015, ya’ll!

Peace out, 2014. You were pretty darn good! Started a new job, got myself hitched, and had an all-around great time! It’ll be hard getting used to not celebrating 24/7, but some normalcy will be nice, too.

eShakti Fashion Dress Review

I’m finding that the busier I get each year, the less time I spend actually going to stores and shopping for my wardrobe updates. I still love sifting through racks of clothes, but finding the time is hard and frustrating, especially during the holidays. So, when, a custom clothing apparel website, offered to send me a custom dress of my choice, I couldn’t turn it down! eShakti has amazing styles ranging from size 0-36 and they boast a claim of creating “real fashion for real people.” I’m down with that!

I chose a dress based on a more demure style. I wanted something I could wear to teach. Though, if you’re looking for something to wear to a NYE party or other more formal gathering, there are plenty of options!

I measured myself with a simple tape measure and followed their sizing chart directions. After taking my measurements, I ordered a size 6. It fit well everywhere I measured (bust, hips, waist), and the neckline allowed me to wear a small necklace or a scarf. I loved how it looked both with the cardigan and without!

The length of the dress fell nicely with my flat shoes that I was wearing in this photo, and it also fell nice with a short heel both of which I wear to work on a daily basis. I also liked the bright colors of the birds and how it matched with the khaki. This dress could probably be seen as plain color-wise, but the blues, yellows, and reds warm it up. I’d most likely wear this throughout the Fall and even Spring since the sleeves are 3/4 length. This dress is a soft cotton which needs a quick press after washing, too! Iron this dress after you wash and dry it and press it to make the pleats pop.

Love those little birds!

My good friend got me really into birds which went into my major reasoning for choosing this dress. Here is the close-up of the skirt with the pleats and the print design. How cute, right?

Because eShakti is all about real fashion for real people, they feature their favorite looks on their Facebook, Twitter, and their Pinterest pages (which has TONS of amazing fashion inspiration!

So, check them out and let me know what you think. With the holidays coming up save yourself some time and get a custom outfit that will wow everyone!
