Hello, September!

I honestly cannot believe it’s September already. It certainly doesn’t feel like it as temperatures hit almost in the 100s today on the East Coast. Hurricane Earl is coming to visit us tomorrow, and I have to wake up at 4am to go into work at 5am for my opening shift. At least I get out before noon, right? In a way I’m kind of hoping for a good storm to clear out the hot, humid weather we’ve been experiencing. I love laying out in the pool, and will be sad to see the cover on it next weekend, but part of me is also ready for fall. I want to wear my fall scarves and my cardigans!

September is actually a month of celebrations. My Dad’s birthday is on the 4th, and my parents celebrate their 30th anniversary on the 13th. Then later in the month I’m going to Tucker Max’s book signing in NYC with Keith and Kelly. I’m so excited to meet him and take a photo with him. If you haven’t yet read “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” you should stop reading, drive to your bookstore or library, and get it NOW!

With the fall weather on the way (hopefully soon!), I’m starting to think about all of the fun fall activities that I want to do. I’ve made a short list and hope to add more to it at some point. Last Fall Keith was out of work, and I wasn’t working many hours so we had to cut out some of our usual fun activities that we do together. But, now that I’m working more and he’s working fulltime, we’ll be able to do some more this season (if we don’t fall asleep first, haha!) While working a lot has been making me want to do nothing but sleep, and sometimes gets me a little sad (I really want to be teaching!), thinking about all of the fun things I’ll be doing make me happy and lift my spirits.

The Fall Fun List
Apple picking
Making my awesome apple pie
Haunted hayride
Haunted houses/graveyards at Lake Compounce
Drinking cider
Picking out a pumpkin with my Dad
Dressing up for Halloween
Fun sized Junior Mints (yay for trick or treaters)
The smell of leaves and fireplaces
How the moon looks in the fall

These are just a few of the reasons why Fall is one of my favorite seasons. This year I also want to try to go to some of the local fairs and get some yummy fair food. Funnel cake anyone?

San Francisco: a visual experience

First of all, thank you for all of the feedback you guys left for me to come back to. I’m definitely taking everything that has been said into consideration. Since many of you lovely people have been following my blog for some time, I truly value your opinions. With all of that being said, I’m sure that for the past week there was a void in your lives with me being in California. (Why do I hear crickets?) I snapped 177 photos all of which can be found on my flickr page, but since you asked for it (and because I talk too much, haha), here are some of my favorite photos. Enjoy the visuals, kids!

For a short summary of what we did (because otherwise this blog would be miles long), we went to Pier 39 and the wharf, Muir Woods and Sausalito, a sick wax museum, In ‘n’ Out Burger, Cesar’s & Capurro’s Italian restaurants, the Spinaker restaurant, a San Francisco Giants baseball game (AWESOME!!!), Ghirardelli Square, Union Square, and Chinatown.

Overall, it was a wonderful time with my parents and Keith. We had scrumptious eats, did some serious shopping, and saw some amazing sights. It was my 4th time visiting the city, and Keith’s first, but every time I go I always find something new to see.

I am now a college graduate

Last Friday, May 28th, was my graduation ceremony. This Sunday is the actual party with the whole shebang of family and friends. Friday was a beautiful, warm and sunny day. I even got a little bit of a tan from sitting in the bleachers. All week I was looking forward to graduation, but it didn’t really hit me until Friday morning, and then it hit me a second time when they had the School of Arts and Sciences stand up and move our tassels to the other side of our caps. Then we were called up to receive our degrees. Geoffrey Fletcher, the writer of ‘Precious’ was our graduation speaker. Afterward, we went to Apps which is a delicious Italian restaurant where I sipped on my white wine spritzers and enjoyed Fettuccine Alfredo. It was a wonderful day with the people I love.

Look very closely at this photo. There is a hole in the tree branches and my face can be seen right in there. Keith took it of me. =]

I’m the third one walking up to receive my degree, and cheesin’ the whole way.

I do not know this man in the photo. I dubbed him “The Situation.” He posed and everything! Too funny.

These were just a few of my favorites from the graduation ceremony. I especially love the one with the tree just because Keith is amazing and managed to find me in the hole of the branches. Look close at the tree one and you will see my face. =] The whole day really made me think a lot, and I am so excited about making my degree work for me. Now…I just need a school to hire me!

Happy Birthday to Me! I’m 23!

As of 9:20 this morning I am officially 23 years old! Another year older, and another year wiser? What do you think? I’m actually very excited because we’re having a small gathering at my house. Just my parents and Keith and my Aunt and Uncle. It’s nice to have a small, calm party. Last night was my “going out” night with Keith and Paul. It was originally going to be a big thing, but since we planned it so last minute it was pretty small and relaxing which I preferred. =] Nothing like drinking Coronas and watching some good and funny TV with good people.

Today we’ll be having a nice dinner and dessert. I’m super excited because we’re having all of my favorites. Penne pasta with my Momma’s amazing sauce, my Dad’s famous chicken, and artichokes and Italian bread. We’re also having a salad served in a bowl I made last semester in my ceramics class. I love having my functional art on the table. My Aunt is making my cake (white with white frosting–my favorite). I opened my presents this morning and got my present from Keith last night. I was surprised and very grateful for all of my gifts from my family. I love them!

As you guys know, I love balloons. Last night I saw these in my room! I especially love the butterfly and cupcake one. Totally cute, and such a sweet surprise.

My parents also got me a book called “Cat Power” that comes with songs. I loved it when I saw it in the bookstore, and forgot about it. But my parents surprised me with it. The cat paintings inside the book are amazing. My parents also got me a Pandora charm bracelet with some charms to start me off. I now have an angel, a peace sign, an emerald, a cat, an angel, a heart and a may birthday charm. I have always wanted a Pandora bracelet. I am so excited to finally have one. My Mom also got me a new Southern hoodie. =]

I'll never run out of paper!

Fancy copy paper!

Fancy copy paper!

Last but not least, I have a copy machine at my house now since I’ve been making so many copies for teaching. The ones at school are sometimes out of service, and it’s a FORTUNE to go to Staples. So to go with my copy machine Keith got me a huge box of paper as well as colored copy paper in all of my favorite shades. Guess who is getting a hot pink test soon? You guessed it…my students! I absolutely love office supplies, and I’ll be prepared for all of the copies I have to make for a while now.

So far, my birthday has been amazing. I am so blessed to have such loving, and generous family, friends, and a Keith. =]

On a completely unrelated note, I am in love with Pond’s Cold Cream. My face has been so dry (even my beloved MAC Studio Fix isn’t doing the job), so I’ve been using this for the past few days. I attribute it to the dry air in the high school, the crazy wind we had, and the change in weather.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Valentine’s Day

I hope that everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! I almost cried when I opened my present from Keith. He created a wooden bobblehead of my kitty, Socks. It looks just like her down to her striped tail, and her extra white paw. She is now sitting on my desk so I can look at her every time I do my homework.

How can you NOT smile when you see something like that? My parents also gave me a beautiful jewelry box since I have been needing one for a while. I had some small ones, but nothing to keep my necklaces in. Can you believe I spent almost an hour organizing everything? I love it because it looks like a mini wardrobe.

It has little doors on either side and little hangers for necklaces. I put two on each hanger and used the drawers for some other chains and my rings. I’m so happy to finally have something to keep my necklaces in safe and sound without them getting tangled.

Keith and I were very low key this Valentine’s Day, celebrating on Friday night. We went to Chili’s since we had a gift card and watched “Carriers” which was decent until about the halfway point. We basically spent the evening making fun of the movie and how many plot holes it had. I purchased some Axe products and heart boxers for him with K’s all over them. Red, black, and with his first initial? It was a win-win situation!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! Did you do anything to celebrate Valentine’s Day?
