Current Obsessions: Mom Version

It’s been a little over 5 months since the tornado known as Leo has entered into my life. And wow! I’m actually sitting at a computer in something other than pajamas (going back to work makes you feel good about wearing real clothes again), and without someone crying for me. Despite being a Mom now, I’ve got some sweet new obsessions (and some old ones that have returned), to tell you all about! And because I’m a Mom who lives under a rock now, tell me what I should be loving!

***Just want to let you know I started writing this post in March and now it’s almost May…

  • LulaRoe: Despite the claims that their leggings rip like wet TP, I’m digging these bad boys. They feel so silky soft and make me look streamlined with their yoga waistband.
  • Coconut oil: for my baby, boobs, dog, husband, and just about everything else.
  • Lactation cookies: homemade or Booby Boons (peep my Instagram over there—->) these are delicious and healthy!
  • Pedicures: because my feet were BUSTED since November. And yes, it took me about 3 months to cut my nails.

I’d make this longer, but you and I both know I have a little one yelling at me to pay attention to him, dammit! What are you into lately?

Anti-Aging Serum Combo Pack from Tree Of Life Review & Giveaway!

I feel like my skin has taken a serious beating since becoming a mom. Like, I’ve legit aged at least 10 years within the past two months. Add in the northeastern winters and you have a recipe for dry, dull skin. I am always looking for new products that will mosturize and rejuvenate and if you’ve been following beauty trends, you know that concentrated serums are IN! That’s why I am so excited to share with you, Tree of Life’s Anti-Aging Serums! And with my 30th birthday coming up in a few months, I’ve been looking for some animal friendly anti-aging products that won’t be harsh or pricey.

Let’s start off with the secret weapon: The Ultimate Age-defying Nighttime Serum ($24.95). This serum packs a punch of Vitamin C, Retinol, and Hyaluronic Acid. It’s basically a smoothie for your skin. I loved using this each night after cleansing and toning. I applied it on my face and neck and it was light, gentle, and did not have a distinct scent to it. This was easily blended with my night creams and did not interfere with my nighttime skincare routine. Excellent! Tree of Life’s Ultimate line offers professional grade skincare. I love that the ingredients are natural, effective, and easy on the wallet.

I used about a dime-sized dollops of the Age-Defying Nighttime Serum and saw a different in my skin within a few days. My skin looked more hydrated in the morning and felt soft and supple. Running on 4 hours of sleep nowadays means I need all the hydration I can get!

Next up? If you’re looking for a streamlined serum regimen, look no further than Tree of Life’s Anti-Aging Combo Pack ($29.95), which includes the Vitamin C Serum, Hyaluronic Acid Serum, and Retinol Serum. I used each of these serums separately depending on what my skin needed for the day. Each of them were light enough to wear under my regular makeup and moisturizers and kept my pores clear and happy.

The Vitamin C Serum: this serum made my skin feel amazing! You know when you chug that first glass of OJ in the morning? This is your skin’s wakeup call. It left my face ready for the day. The vitamin C made any dark spots fade and left my skin with a more even tone. I would even use this as a double duty product and have it function as a toner and serum after cleansing.

The Retinol Serum: Retinol is a fancy word, so let’s break it down. This Retinol Serum helps counter the effects of skin-damage to give your skin a youthful shine while making it feel soft and rejuvenated! Kind of like a mini massage for your face. This serum was also light, smooth, and made my skin feel even and velvety. I also used this serum as a primer for my daily makeup. I loved how easy it was to apply and how quickly it absorbed into my skin.

The Hyaluronic Serum: Hyaluronic is one of my favorite skincare ingredients. Hyaluronic Acid is sometimes known as a “super moisturizer,” helping reduce fine lines caused by dehydration. It’s one of my secret weapons when it comes to battling dry, winter skin. However, this serum is also perfect for summer when skin needs an extra boost of hydration. Of all the serums, this one is my favorite. I used it before bed to boost the power of the age-defying serum and also found it works great under makeup!

Stoked? You should be! Because one lucky Curls.nu reader is going to win all four of these serums! Enter below and share with your friends. Get your skin ready for the ultimate beauty smoothie from Tree of Life! Good luck!

Guest post: Your new DIY Vegan Hairmask

We all have busy lives, and washing our hair is often part of a routine we need to get done quickly before moving on to the next. But sometimes, our body has ways of telling us it needs a little extra care. After noticing my scalp felt dry and itchy, I switched to the best shampoo for itchy scalp, and learned more about what my hair and skin need to stay healthy.

Applying your own DIY hair mask is the perfect way to nourish your hair and soothe your scalp. My vegan recipe is really simple to make, and has made a huge difference in how my hair looks and feels.

Avocado

The first step to having beautiful hair is making sure your scalp stays clean, healthy and hydrated. Avocado is full of beneficial properties, and is easily absorbed by your skin. It delivers amino acids, potassium, vitamins and minerals, and can also unclog hair follicles to stimulate new hair growth.

Avocado can also help moisturize and strengthen your strands, making your hair shiny and supple. It contains everything you need to revive dry, dull or weakened hair, and helps protect it from further styling damage.

Banana

Applying banana to your hair can improve its condition dramatically. It contains vitamins, folate, minerals and natural oils which can nourish your scalp and condition your locks.

Banana’s natural moisturizing properties can help your strands feel soft and smooth, and add some extra shine to hair that feels dry and dull. It also contains antioxidants to promote healthier skin.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk adds moisture and shine to your hair, and helps replenish protein which is lost through styling and environmental damage. It contains lauric acid, Vitamins B, C and E, and is a rich source of minerals.

Massaging coconut milk into your scalp provides a cooling effect, and its natural antifungal and antibacterial properties can reduce the yeast-like fungus which causes dandruff. It also soothes irritated skin, and helps with minor scalp infections.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can help protect your hair from styling damage and chemical process. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, medium chain fatty acids and other nutrients, and can strengthen and condition your strands.

It effectively penetrates the hair shaft, and can reduce protein loss so your hair feels thick and shiny. Coconut oil can also tame flyaways and reduce frizz, and works as a natural detangler so your hair is easier to manage and style.

Olive Oil

Fighting oil with oil can be an effective way of removing a buildup of sebum, and olive oil can do just that. This helps promote new hair follicles to encourage growth, as well as improving the overall health of your scalp.

It is also very beneficial for your hair, as its rich moisturizing properties help smooth your strands so they become soft, shiny and pliable. Olive oil is a natural emollient, and infuses hair with Vitamins A, E, and antioxidants.

Ingredients

– 1/2 Avocado

– 1/2 Banana

– 50 ml Coconut Milk

– 2 tbsp Coconut Oil

– 1 tbsp Olive Oil

Method

Put all the ingredients in a blender, and mix until you have a smooth paste.

Apply the mixture all over your hair, making sure your scalp is saturated. Massage it into your skin for a few minutes to nourish your scalp and roots.

Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. I like to take this time to relax in the tub, but if you want to get on with other things, you can just put a shower cap on to avoid drips.

Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo to protect your hair’s natural moisture. Rinse thoroughly, spending at least 30 seconds under the water to make sure no residue is left behind. You can condition your hair as usual.

You should already feel how much easier it is to work through any tangles. Once your hair is dry, it should feel, lush, smooth and shiny.

Target Made to Matter Back to School Collection

Target has long been one of the places I go to snag a lot of my cruelty free goods and just about everything else I could possibly imagine needing. Their Made to Matter Line features cruelty free, safe, sustainable, and organic products for the home which I’m completely obsessed with! A lot of my favorite items like Mrs. Meyer’s, Annie’s, and Pacifica were in the Made to Matter line, but I was so excited to see more brands that I use on a daily basis and some new ones too! I’ll be talking about all of these amazing products, but here’s just a brief look at what was inside their back to school bag (which I”ll be using to tote things to and from school!)

Bitsy’s Brainfood Smart Crackers in Chia Veggie – $3.99 – I love anything cheddar! Cheese flavored snacks are my weakness, but these babies have low sugar, 1/2 a serving of veggies, and are made in a nut-free facility. These would be excellent to have on hand to pacify a hungry 8th grader if necessary.

Annie’s Organic Berry Patch Fruit Snacks – $3.45 per box – When I saw Berry Patch snacks in my bag I jumped for joy! These are a favorite in my house. These fruit snacks are soft and flavorful and don’t have any of the nasties that commercial fruit snacks have. I love throwing these in my purse or in a lunch box for a quick snack throughout the day.

Mrs. Meyer’s Lemon Verbena Vinegar Gel – $3.99 – MM was always a brand I loved having in my home. I’ve never tried the Vinegar Gel before and am looking forward to using this in my bathroom and around the house. I’m obsessed with cleaning and am looking forward to using this Made to Matter item. Vinegar is a very effective cleanser, but having it premixed will just made it more convenient for quick clean-ups too.

Shea Moisture Peace Rose Shampoo & Conditioner – $10.99 – Yet another Curls.nu favorite! I’ve never tried this Shampoo and Conditioner, but the scent is amazing. I’ll look forward to letting my curls experience this moisturizing treatment.

Babyganics Moisturizing Daily Lotion – $7.29 – Babyganics is a brand that is on my registry. I’m a big fan of their wipes and can only imagine their lotions will be just as great.

Pacifica Beauty Dream Big Mascara – $15.99 – If you’ve been reading my blog for long enough you KNOW Pacifica is my JAM!

Justin’s PB + Banana Chips – $1.99 – It is so hard sometimes to grab quick, easy snacks! I’ll be throwing these in my lunchbag throughout the week for quick energy and to beat the 3 p.m. slump.

Honest Company Organic Healing Balm – $12.95 – Since I’ll be meeting baby in a few short months, I’m super excited to try the Honest Company healing balm. I will NOT be using big brands that have toxins and additives in them on my baby love, so sampling this balm beforehand will be great.

Honest Company Orange Hand Sanitizing Spray – $2.98 – Likewise, 8th graders are germy freaks. This hand sanitizer will have a happy little place in my desk drawer for easy cleaning.

Happy Family Super Smart Pouch in Berry & Beet – $1.60 – Of course, I’m going to want my little one to have lots of healthy snack choices and Target Made to Matter makes that really easy. These pouches are perfect for tiny hands and offer fun flavors like the strawberry and beet I received!

Seventh Generation Laundry Packs – $12.99 – I love everything I’ve tried by SG, but have always been curious about laundry packs. I love the idea of less mess when it comes to pouring detergent and will definitely let you know how these work out.

Method Pumpkin Clove Gel Handwash – $3.49 – It’s Fall, I live in New England, and it’s almost time for pumpkin flavored everything. So, why not add that flavor in the kitchen or bathroom? This Pumpkin Clove hand gel smells AMAZING.

Yes to Carrots Coconut Paper Mask – $2.99 – Paper masks are all the rage right now because they’re quick, easy, and effective (a triple win, no?) Yes to Coconut provides skin with some extra moisture and a lasting scent of summer.

Tom’s of Maine Whitening Toothpaste – $4.99 – My dentist told me my teeth look better than ever. When I told her I switched to Tom’s she couldn’t believe it. A natural toothpaste?? I’ve tried their total care and look forward to brightening my smile in time for picture day.

Tom’s of Maine Naturally Dry Antiperspirant – 4.49 – This sultry men’s scent of Tom’s is perfect for my husband who works outside 24/7. Their Naturally Dry formula keeps everything smooth, comfy, and smelling great.

Suja Juice Coupons – Juices Retail at $2.99 – Suja Juices now offers probiotic waters and I’ll get to choose my flavor. Updates soon to some as my baby bump can always use some extra probiotics.

Nature’s Path EnviroKids Granola Bar – $4.99/box of 6 – Nature’s Path Envirokids is not just for kids. I am obsessed with their chocolate chip, nut free, vegetarian flavor.

Stay tuned as I share my faves with you within the coming weeks and happy back to school from Curls.nu!

Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer Review

Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer

My combination skin has been the bain of my existence for years. Sometimes it’s too oily, sometimes I have uneven patches, and sometimes it explodes into a middle school horror show of breakouts. I have tried different moisturizers, but though they keep the combo skin at bay, uneven tone has been an issue I’ve wanted to resolve. Enter Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer, a luxxe cruelty free moisturizer that packs a punch and works on virtually all skin types, including my schizophrenic skin!

Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer

Let’s get into the packaging first! I am OBSESSED with the white and gold. And the name? Valentia was actually a Roman Goddess known for sharing her beauty secrets with the citizens of Umbria, and, of course looking fabulous while using all natural ingredients. So between the gorgeous packaging and the brand philosophy of cruelty free nature-based ingredients I was already very excited to try this product!

Now, what’s inside Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer, you ask?

Botanical Hyaluronic Acid: Floods skin with moisture, supports skin elasticity, and plumps skin from within.
Kojic Acid: Controls melanin production and prevents dark spots.
Ginseng: Boosts skin firming collagen, fights wrinkles, and gives the skin a brighter and more energized look.
Safflower Oil: Repairs skin’s natural moisture barrier and provide superior skin protection.
Shea Butter: Infuses skin with a myriad of vitamins and nutrients for superior skin hydration and nourishment.

Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer

What I noticed first about Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer was how light it was on my skin. It has a rich, velvety feel and did not make my skin feel heavy even with primer and makeup. It absorbs very quickly and my skin had a nice glow right away. After using Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer for about a week, my skin looked very bright and even and my dark circles were less noticeable along with scarring from past breakouts. Excellent, right? The scent was lemon-like, clean and fresh. And I LOVE using a moisturizer from a pump. For me, it makes the product last longer and it stays nice and neat.

You can currently snag Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer on Amazon for $25.00 or on their website. I haven’t seen Valentia in stores yet, but I’m hoping to see it soon when I shop. Want to stay in touch with the brand? Check them out on their GORGEOUS Instagram and like them on Facebook to learn more!
